Most of our positions are in the competitive class and candidates for the position must be reachable on a civil service list for the position title. We also have a few non-competitive and labor class positions that we hire directly for. Those positions are publicly advertised on sites such as Indeed, Craig’s List, or in local newspapers. They are also posted on our Town Website on the Human Resources, Highway, Police, and Parks and Recreation Department pages.

Civil Service exams are given by the Dutchess County Human Resources Department. Exam notices for specific titles are listed on the Dutchess County Website and are also posted at the Hyde Park Town Hall. Notices are posted anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks prior to the examination date and applications can be completed online or in person at the Dutchess County Office Building, 5th floor. When the town has a vacancy for a competitive class position, we request and canvass a list that the county provides from examinations that have been previously given.
