[ARCHIVED] Recreation Announcements, Summer 2020

Hackett Hill Park Office

As we approach the season typically filled with shared celebrations and activities, the Town has had to make some very difficult decisions on how to protect the health of our residents by limiting the transmission of COVID-19.

These decisions were not made easily and not made alone. We have carefully reviewed and evaluated the regulations required by the CDC, and the State of NY as well as collaborating with our colleagues in recreation departments and town governments throughout the County.

Summer Camp

With sadness, the Town of Hyde Park has canceled our well-loved summer camp program as well as the opening of the Hackett Hill pool for the 2020 season.    Because the risks to both children and staff to exposure of the COVID-19 virus remain high in a camp environment, this difficult decision was required.

Though the Town had hoped we would be able to host a camp with appropriate measures to keep all safe, the limitations imposed by the Statewould not allow for the camp experience children expect and deserve.

With the continued restrictions on mass gatherings, the Town will be unable to host our traditional Independence Day Parade. We will miss this iconic and beautiful celebration of our nation’s birth but look forward to 2021.

Music in the Parks

The continuation of our Music in the Parks series, traditionally held on each Wednesday evening of the summer, is currently under discussion for evenings beginning in mid-July.  We are reaching out to our State and Federal partners to understand their policies and to collaborate on possible modifications to the program to comply with social distancing, etc.  We will continue to keep the public informed as we have more information.

Wishing everyone a healthy and safe summer, and look forward very much to the return of our much loved summer activities for 2021.
